From CAS to biometrics at VFS Dhaka, here is exactly how the UK student visa process works for Bangladeshi students โ with the mistakes to avoid at each stage.
The UK remains the number-one destination for Bangladeshi students, and the good news is that the Student visa process is transparent and largely paperwork-driven โ most applicants never face an interview. The bad news is that small documentation errors cause avoidable refusals every intake. Here is the process, step by step.
Step 1: Secure Your Unconditional Offer and CAS
Everything begins with an unconditional offer. Once you accept it and pay the required deposit, your university issues a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) โ an electronic reference number that unlocks your visa application. Check every detail on the CAS statement: name spelling, course title, fees paid. Errors here follow you through the whole process.
Step 2: Prepare Your Financial Evidence
This is where most refusals happen. You must show:
- First-year tuition fees (minus anything already paid, as shown on your CAS)
- Living costs of ยฃ1,483 per month for London or ยฃ1,136 per month elsewhere, for up to nine months
- Funds held for 28 consecutive days, with the closing date within 31 days of your application
Parents can sponsor you, but you will need their bank statements or bank solvency certificate, your birth certificate proving the relationship, and a signed consent letter. Fixed deposits and savings accounts from established banks work well; avoid sudden large deposits without a clear, documented source.
Step 3: Complete the Online Application
Apply on the gov.uk portal, pay the visa fee and the Immigration Health Surcharge (budget around ยฃ776 per year of your visa). Answer every question consistently with your documents โ inconsistencies between your form, CAS and bank papers are red flags.
Step 4: Book Biometrics at VFS Dhaka
After payment, book your appointment at the VFS Global centre in Dhaka. Bring your passport, CAS statement, financial documents, academic certificates and TB test certificate from an approved clinic โ the TB test is mandatory for Bangladeshi applicants and valid for six months.
Step 5: Wait โ and Prepare for a Possible Credibility Interview
Standard processing takes around three weeks, longer in peak season (JulyโAugust). A minority of applicants are called for a short credibility interview. If you are, speak honestly about your course choice, funding and career plans; rehearsed, agent-scripted answers are the fastest route to refusal.
Common Mistakes We See Every Intake
- Bank funds dipping below the required amount for even one day within the 28-day window
- Using mobile financial services or unverifiable accounts for evidence
- Applying with a CAS that misstates paid deposits
- Booking flights before the decision arrives
